After a stunning live debut at Garma Gathering, peaking with a performance on ABC Q&A program, the full Diesel n’Dub album was released on 5th September by Diaspora Music in recognition of National Indigenous Literacy Day. It’s been a dream run for Declan, a highly respected Sydney musician and producer who hatched the idea a couple of years ago of reinventing some of Australia’s most powerful protest songs into dub-reggae anthems. Celebrating the release he says “Diesel n’Dub was a dream of mine for a long while. I had heard some of the Midnight Oil songs sung by other people and especially First Australians, then with my love of reggae music felt it right to fuse the two together!” And the results sound better than you can imagine. With praise coming in from over 80 radio stations across the country who have added Diesel n’Dub to rotation, to fans and new listeners creating a buzz on social media around the release. What has made the album extra special is the stunning cover artwork created exclusively for the project by highly acclaimed artist Blak Douglas (Adam Hill). The original canvas was unveiled at a small gathering at Blak Active Gallery Space in Sydney where Hill cited his own references to Midnight Oil album covers of the past as inspiration for the work. Declan and the project are honoured to have this beautiful work enrich the project.
